Christmas Traditions

It really is the most wondeful (and BUSY) time of the year!  I LOVE decorating the house for Christmas every year.  This year I went a little more low-key since Evie doesn't leave me with as much free time as I used to have, but the house still feels so warm and cozy. Evie has thoroughly enjoyed the Christmas tree, and she waves at it every morning when she wakes up and every afternoon when we get home.  Even though she's crawling, she hasn't ventured down to that side of the den on her own yet, so the tree remains in tact... for one more year.  :)

Every year for as long as I can remember, we bake Christmas cookies at my mom's.  Evie got to join in on the fun this year.  She enjoyed an extended nap (go figure!) and then crawled around Nana's kitchen.  Bennett was so sweet and made some special cookies for Evie to leave out for Santa.   Despite peer pressure from Mimi and Nana, I didn't let Evie eat any cookies.

Gavin's company Christmas party was a lot different this year since Evie got to attend with us.  She was overwhelmed by all the people, but she handled it great, ESPECIALLY considering it was during her afternoon nap time.  She didn't last long on the ride home!

Amy and I continued our tradition of hosting a Christmas "dirty santa" party at my house with some of our very good friends.  This was our fourth year.  Always a fun group of ladies and a really great time!  I definitely couldn't pull it all off without my big sis!!  Honestly, planning the party and pulling everything together with her is just as much fun as the party itself.  I think we make a good team.  :)

And just last night, Gavin and I continued an even longer standing tradition- dinner and an ornament swap with two of our very best friend couples.  I've literally known these girls my whole life, and we've been best friends for too many years to count.  This year, Evie made a brief appearance before bedtime, baby Buck was an angel, and baby L #2 will make her grand debut in March.  The only thing missing was Jenn.  :(

And now the big day is almost here.  It sure has flown by.  Even though Evie will never remember her first Christmas, I know I sure will!

Nine Months Old

Evie turned nine months old Sunday!  She started crawling Saturday, and she's beginning to get the hang of it.  She's still pretty slow, thank goodness, since we're trying to figure out how to child-proof everything!!  She talks a lot, and she says both "mama" and "dada" (good girl!).  She only says "mama" when she's upset about something, and she says "dada" (sometimes "daddy") in this sweet little sing-song voice when Gavin is around.  Pretty adorable, I have to admit.  :)

She had her nine month check-up yesterday and got a great report.  She weighs 23 pounds 5 ounces, is 30 inches long and her head circumference is 18.25 inches.  She is at the top of the growth charts on all her stats, and Dr. Stone said she is perfectly healthy and proportional.  She had to get two shots, which she didn't like, but she recovered very quickly.  She actually got the most upset at the very beginning when she had to get weighed and measured!  Go figure.

I know I say it every time, but she really does bring so much joy to our lives.  I can't imagine what we ever did without her.  :)

Meeting Santa

We decided to have Evie's obligatory Santa pictures taken Saturday.  Santa was supposed to be at the mall at 10, so we figured we would try to beat the crowds, and we met up with Mimi and Bennett at the mall at 10:15.  When we arrived, we were disappointed to see there was already a pretty long line.  Turns out there was a "mix-up," and Santa didn't show up until 10:45.  Despite our frustration, we decided to wait.  I was afraid Evie would get bored if we had to wait too long, but we managed to keep her entertained.  She enjoyed strolling through the mall, reading books, and well, chewing on a pack of kleenex after she got bored with all her toys.  Desperate times call for desperate measures.  :)

Luckily, the line moved really fast once Santa finally got there.  Before we knew it, it was our turn.  Evie was fine as we approached Santa's chair.  She even waved at him and the huge Christmas tree behind him (she really loves Christmas trees).

For a minute, I thought she might actually be okay.  She didn't cry immediately when I put her in his lap.  But then I had to step away, and I think she got a little nervous.

And then maybe a little mad...

But I actually think the final product is pretty cute, even if she is upset:

She recovered quickly and gladly posed for some adorable pictures with her Daddy and cousin.

All things considered, we all had fun, even Evie.  Hopefully Santa wasn't too offended and won't hold it against her on Christmas morning...  Even if he does, I'm pretty sure Gram and Nana will make up for it!!  :)
