Eight Months Old

Evie is eight months old today!  She's babbling more and more, but we have yet to hear her first real word.  Baba is her favorite thing to say right now, but she's not using it to refer to her bottle.  She just likes the way it sounds.  She is getting used to having four new teeth and she loves to test them out by biting down on things and seeing what it feels like.  She is very good at waving.  All you have to do is say, "hey" or "bye" and she puts that arm straight up into the air.  If you ask her where something is (e.g. "where's Wilson?" or "where's Daddy?"), she looks around all over the place until she finds it.  She's not yet crawling, but she is scooting, and she can get pretty far that way, inch by inch.  She could roll where she wants to go, but she much prefers sitting to laying down.  She rolls over in her crib now, and often sleeps on her side and occassionally her tummy.  We have survived our first illness (a cold and ear infection) and our first round of antibiotics (which I had to mix into Evie's bottle, since she was throwing up whenever I gave her any medicine straight- fun times!!).   She's got so much personality now, and we just love spending time with her!!
[We almost had a battle of the wills this morning trying to take these pictures!  I'd like to think that I won, but I'm not so sure. :)  I managed to get some decent ones, but she was just not in the mood to pose!!  (Also, I'm not sure why the photos I edited are showing up with white edges... not sure how to fix that).]

Check out those teeth!!

And Happy Veterans' Day!  I recently read an amazing book, Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand.  It is an unbelievable true story about Louie Zamperini, an Air Force lietnenat in World War II.  Since I highly recommend it, I won't give any spoilers.  But I will say that it has given me a renewed appreciation for all those who have given so much to defend our freedom that I so often take for granted.  It has also made me understand a little bit more of what my Papa and PopPop experienced as officers and pilots during the war, things that neither of them talked much about.  What heroes!  Without our troops and veterans, our world would be a different place.
